Week 5 Update
This week was a bit of a slow week in comparison to others, but still made some headway on our modules. After talking to Dr. Gordon, we gained a better understanding of what we could classify as design modules and came up with more.
Mobilization of the lower body limb joints:
Move the Hip joint
Move the Knee joint
Move the Ankle joint
Attachment of device to the human body
Adjustability of project components
- Electronic components:
Sensors Components
Power
Quad copter motor
Stepper motor
More research needs to be done this week to help in our design iterations for each module and choosing what design to pursue for our design 1 iteration. Also we are choosing to focus on our electrical components and motor selection so that we can test those first in our shakedown testing.
Natalie: I worked on my ethics paper this weekend and picked Carbon Fiber Fixation devices for my topic. I was able to find a few articles to use as sources.
Chris: This week I was able to do some research on the use of motors and how they are different from each other. I watched videos on the use of motor joints in the design of prosthetics and mechanically assisted lower limb exoskeletons. My research also looked briefly into the use of motor controllers, although I still need to do much more research to understand this topic. Most of my time this week was spent looking into our DEL 4 info. LINKS:

Brad: This week i had contacted Dr. Zhou in regards to which motors would work best for the application of a lower limb exoskeleton. Unfortunately, I had yet to hear back from him and plan on heading to his office this week so we can place a order through the school to begin our shakedown testing on which motor we choose to pick in the final design. I did look a bit into several different types of motors but would like to confer with Dr. Zhou before moving forward with any of them.
Mohammed: Looked into deliverable 4 of the capstone project and came in touch with the big picture of the project. Further time went into elaborating and expanding the details of each concept and lessons from the brainstorming session.
